The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has trained stakeholders in disaster management on ways to manage road traffic emergencies, particularly during the Yuletide.

NEMA North Central Coordinator, Mr Eugene Nyelong, revealed at a one-day workshop on Thursday in Jos that the training was crucial to saving lives and property.

Nyelong noted that disaster management needed the active participation of various players, particularly those directly involved in response activities.

โ€œThe training is important to remind us of the need to be cautious in handling road traffic emergencies and also to draw our attention to the high rate of road accidents, especially at the Yuletide.

โ€œThe agency deems it fit to organize this workshop for its stakeholders on basic first aid and casualty handling during road traffic emergencies.

โ€œThe training is also to keep stakeholders abreast of proper ways to respond in cases of accidents and emergencies during this period.โ€

The zonal coordinator added that the training was also to build disaster-resilient people and society, urging the participants to see themselves as ambassadors of disaster management and also imploring them to educate members of their different associations and organizations.
