The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested 365 people suspected with illicit drugs around Adamawa State in 2023.
The state office of the agency, which announced this on Monday in Yola, said it seized 1,845.074 kilograms of different types of drugs from the suspects.
The state Commander of the agency, Agboalu Samson who did a review of the activities of his office at a press briefing, said the total sum of N821,270, was seized from the suspects.
โMonetary exhibit forfeited to the Federal Government stands at N821,270 only,โ the NDLEA commander said.
He disclosed that cannabis sativa, tramadol, diazepam, Rohypnol, methamphetamine (ice) and cough syrup were the most prosecuted drugs in the year under review.
According to him, the prosecution and legal services of the state command secured the final forfeiture of three motor vehicles and one motorcycle.
The Adamawa NDLEA announced that comparatively, the operational efforts of the command in 2022 and 2023 yielded mixed results.
He explained, โThere was a decrease in arrests by 25% (457 suspects in 2022 compared to 365 in 2023) while in terms of seizures, there is a 33% increase (1,242.182kg seizures in 2022 compared to 1,845.070 kg in 2023).โ
Agboalu Samson disclosed that in efforts to raise the effectiveness of the NDLEA in curtailing illicit drug dealings, the state Command had deployed drug intelligence personnel to offices newly established in each of the 21 LGAs of the state.
