The Cross River State Director of the National Population Commission, NPC, Itam Stanley, has disclosed that a 2023–2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, NDHS, will be conducted in the state.

He announced during a press briefing held at the NPC office that the commission would conduct the exercise in 16 local government areas of the state and 35 clusters.

He noted that within the clusters, a total of 1,575 households would be interviewed across the selected clusters in the state.

According to him, NPC will be collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and other key partners in the exercise.

Stanley stressed that the NDHS is a national survey designed to provide data for monitoring the population and health situation in Nigeria.

The exercise, he added, will offer a more reliable demographic and health system for the country, maintaining that the preparation for the exercise started with the training of mappers and listers who have done their parts in developing the framework for the main exercise.

He also informed journalists that the objective of the 2023–24 National Demographic and Health Survey is to gather high-quality data on a wide range of vital indicators, including fertility rates, maternal and child health, contraceptive use, childhood mortality, and gender-related issues.
