A Member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), John Ovey, representing Keffi East on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed the judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal that nullified his election and ordered a rerun in four polling units of the constituency.
Ovey filed a notice of appeal dated Saturday, October 21, before the Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division.
The appeal lists eight substantial grounds to challenge the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal, presided over by Justice Francesca Nnang Isoni, which was delivered on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Represented by his legal counsel, John Matthew, Ovey implored the appellate court to overturn the Tribunal’s ruling and uphold his victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 18 election.
Ovey stated that the petition filed by Isah Adamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against his election lacked merit and should have been dismissed by the tribunal.
Joined in the appeal were Isah Adamu, APC and INEC as first, second and third respondents respectively.
