The Nasarawa House of Assembly has passed into law two executive bills to promote justice, peace and development in the state.

They are โ€˜A Bill For a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State Area Courts Law 2022 and for Other Matters Related Matters Therewithโ€™ and โ€˜A Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Information Technology Development Agency and Other Related Mattersโ€™.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the speaker, announced the passage of the bills into law at the plenary in Lafia on Tuesday.

Mr Abdullahi said the area courts, if assented to, would give a window period of 10 years to judges without a law degree to enrol into a degree programme of law to be called to Bar for them to fit in the profession.

โ€œโ€™A Bill For a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State Area Courts Law 2022 and For Other Matters Related Therewithโ€™ read for the third term and passed. Also, โ€˜A Bill For a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Information Technology Development Agency and Other Related Mattersโ€™ read for the third term and passed,โ€ he said.

The assembly directed the clerk of the house to produce clean copies of the bills for Governor Abdullahi Suleโ€™s assent.

Majority leader Tanko Tunga moved a motion for the bills to scale to third reading. Abel Bala, the minority leader, seconded the motion.

The legislators unanimously passed the two bills.

In a related development, the assembly slated May 10 for the third reading on a โ€˜Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Social Investment Agencyโ€™ charged with tackling poverty, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and economic growth in the state for other matters connected therewith.

The speaker slated the date after the house deliberated and adopted the Joint Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development and Public Accounts reports on the bill.

Mr Tunga moved a motion to adopt the report, while Mr Bala, the minority leader, seconded the motion.

After the debate, the legislators unanimously adopted the report.ย
