The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe, has expressed concern over the non-payment of impress and furniture allowances to several deputy chairmen serving in the 13 local government councils in the state.
Balarabe, who reacted to the situation during a meeting with the Forum of Deputy Chairmen in his office in Lafia, assured the affected individuals that the issues surrounding their unpaid allowances would be resolved amicably in order to allow them to carry out their duties without hindrance and ensure effective service delivery, peace and unity within the local government areas.
The Speaker noted that it was important to resolve the issue promptly for the well-being of the deputy chairmen, their families and the communities they serve.
โI will not be happy if I am in your shoes. I will not take the issue lightly; you have joint tickets with your chairmen, and payment of your allowances is constitutional.
โI have heard all your complaints, and your issues will be addressed amicably.
โI will invite the chairmen and you people for a round table discussion in order to solve the issue once and for all,โ he stated.
The speaker equally urged the deputies to support Governor Abdullahi Suleโs administration to ensure its success in the state, stressing that collaborative efforts were essential for the advancement of Nasarawa State.
Lawal Karshi, the Chairman of the Forum and Deputy Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, had earlier appealed to the Speaker to intervene not only in securing the payment of the impress and furniture allowances but also in increasing their monthly impress in the light of the prevailing economic challenges.
โSir, we want to appeal to you to intervene in the area of increasing our monthly impress of N200,000 considering the present economic challenges.
โWe are also appealing to you to intervene for constant payment of our monthly impress and furniture allowances,โ he said.
