Italian Serie A champions, Napoli, are reportedly set to increase the annual salary of Victor Osimhen to €6.5 million with €1 million in bonuses.
The 24-year-old Nigeria international is expected to sign a two-year contract extension with Napoli this summer even though his current contract will expire on June 30, 2025.
Napoli decided to push for Victor Osimhen’s contract extension amidst raging interest from elite European clubs including Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
“Napoli is in advanced talks to extend his (Osimhen) contract until 2027 with an increase in salary to €6.5m plus €1m as bonuses,” Sky Sports reported on Monday.
However, the negotiations for Osimhen’s contract extension have been dragging because Napoli have not agreed to pay the Nigeria international the €7 million per year the player is demanding.
Also, reports claimed that Napoli intend to include a €200 million release clause in the new deal which Osimhen’s representatives are said not to be too optimistic about.
Osimhen gained worldwide attention as one of the best strikers in Europe when he scored 26 goals and provided 5 assists in 32 games to help Napoli win the Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.
Meanwhile, Roberto Calenda, Osimhen’s agent, has denied claims that his client would object to signing the two years contract extension with Napoli.
On Monday, Calenda responded through Twitter to a statement published by the Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino.
He tweeted, “I read in Il Mattino that ‘Calenda has no intention of renewing in the summer and wants to explore all avenues in the market first. Fake news.’”
