The Kogi Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday prosecuted dozens of motorists in a mobile court for numerous traffic violations.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the trials, which began in the early hours of the day, were part of the corpsโ€™ Operation Zero effort to reduce motorist excesses on the highways in Kogi.

The exercise was conducted at the corpsโ€™ patrol station in Banda, near the naval base in Lokoja, where court officers successfully tried and penalised traffic violators.

Samuel Oyedeji, Sector Commander of the Kogi FRSC, stated that the exercise became necessary due to the carelessness of some motorists, which resulted in the tragic deaths of innocent civilians.

โ€œThe Operation Zero exercise that began on December 6 in Kogi will continue through the week to curb the excesses of motorists on our roads.

โ€œThe mobile court is to open doors for summary trials of traffic offenders to avoid delay in their prosecution.

โ€œItโ€™s our hope and belief that after this exercise, the traffic road crash will be reduced to the barest minimum and save travellers from untimely death and hurt,โ€ he said.

Oyedeji advised motorists to always follow traffic laws and regulations to stay alive and save the lives of passengers.

A bus driver, Yahaya Isah, who was prosecuted and punished, commended the exercise, saying that while he was found guilty, he believed it was for the good of his life and the lives of his passengers.
