The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of three individuals linked to a case of conspiracy, armed robbery, and homicide.

According to the commandโ€™s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, the incident began on August 18, 2024, when police in Misau Local Government Area were alerted by a good samaritan about a body found in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma, on the outskirts of Misau town.

โ€œOn receiving the information, the DPO, Misau Police Division, led a team of detectives to the scene and discovered that the victimโ€™s throat was stilted and cut with a knife. The detectives moved the body to the general hospital Misau where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,โ€ Wakil explained in a WhatsApp chat with journalists on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir, a commercial motorcycle operator, locally known as โ€œAchaba.โ€

According to the Punch, it was reported that his motorcycle had been stolen by suspected armed robbers. His body was subsequently released to his family for burial following Islamic rites.

Wakil further detailed that on August 19, 2024, two suspects were apprehended by the police on the Misau-Kari road while in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

However, an irate mob intervened, overpowering the police, lynching the suspects, and burning one of the bodies to ashes. The stolen motorcycle was recovered by the police.

Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed condemned the actions of the mob, stating that the suspects should have been handed over to the police for proper investigation.

โ€œThis is a barbaric act that goes against the laws governing our country,โ€ Mohammed said.

He also issued a stern warning to the residents of Bauchi State, emphasizing that the police command under his leadership would not tolerate such lawless behavior.

He urged citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties.

โ€œThe suspects apprehended in connection with the crime should be allowed to be duly investigated by the police or any other security agencies saddled with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute such suspects,โ€ the police commissioner added.
