In a bid to find lasting solutions to the crisis facing the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, the Ogun State House of Assembly has concluded plans to convene a public hearing.
DAILY POST reported earlier that the polytechnicโs workers declared an indefinite strike in October due to the nonpayment of their three months salaries.
Our correspondent gathered that MAPOLY could no longer pay wages because the citadel of learning is currently broke.
MAPOLYโs financial crisis began the moment the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) started regulating the number of students it could admit annually.
During plenary on Tuesday, the Ogun Assembly said it had received reports of disruption of academic calendar in MAPOLY due to incessant strikes by the academic staff.
The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon Yusuf Amosun, had presented the motion at the plenary, even as the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, said it also received what he called e-petition on the same matter.
As a result, the lawmakers, according to a statement by the Assembly Media, have resolved โto convene a public hearing towards addressing issues affecting the institution and protecting the students from unnecessary delay caused by the strike.โ
The Speaker had disclosed that the Assembly planned to convene the public meeting involving stakeholders of the institution: the governing council, management, staff, students and other concerned individuals.
The public hearing, Oluomo said, is โwith a view to finding a lasting solution to issues affecting the school very soon.โ
