The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has confirmed the successful rescue of a man trapped inside a vehicle following an accident involving a container-laden truck along the Ikorodu Road corridor at Idi-Iroko.

The incident which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, at approximately 1:30 am, involved a 40-foot Mack truck loaded with goods and a white Toyota Sienna minivan bearing registration number LSR 267 GZ.

According to LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary investigations suggest the truck suffered a brake failure while reportedly travelling at excessive speed, causing the container it carried to detach and collapse onto the minivan.

LASTMA’s midnight surveillance and emergency response team promptly arrived at the scene following distress calls.

The operatives successfully rescued the occupant from the crushed vehicle. The victim received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS.

The truck driver reportedly fled the scene shortly after the incident, allegedly to avoid possible mob action or legal consequences.

While recovery efforts continued, the damaged Sienna minivan was towed to the Anthony Police Station for documentation, and both the truck and its detached container were taken to LASTMA’s operational base for further investigation.

Tinubu saved Nigeria from dangerous crossroad – NSA Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has said that President Bola Tinubu rescued Nigeria when the country was at a dangerous crossroad, facing multiple crises that threatened its unity and stability.

Ribadu stated this in Abuja at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 18 Regular Course.

He described the situation as dire, with security threats cutting across all regions of the country.

According to him, the challenges spanned the country, from the insurgency-ravaged North East to the violence-plagued North West, the restive Niger Delta, and separatist agitations in the South East.

The former EFCC boss reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to overcoming what he termed inherited, intractable security challenges.

The NSA said bold strides have been made in restoring security and rebuilding national confidence across the country.

He disclosed that the government’s counterinsurgency efforts have so far led to the neutralisation of over 13,500 terrorists and criminals, while more than 124,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, along with their families, have surrendered.

Ribadu also recommended the active engagement of military veterans in the ongoing fight against insecurity, emphasising the value of their experience and knowledge in addressing complex threats.

Osun PDP Categorically Denies Governor Adeleke Defection Rumors

Fayose: PDP Vows To Reclaim Ekiti State In Next Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has issued a definitive statement categorically refuting persistent rumors about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party leadership described these claims as completely false and part of a deliberate misinformation campaign by opposition elements.

According to party sources, the defection rumors are directly connected to the ongoing controversy over local government council control in the state. The APC has been attempting to regain control after their council chiefs were permanently sacked by an Appeal Court judgment in January 2025.

The political tensions escalated when APC’s relisting application hit a “brick wall” on June 13, 2025, as the Court of Appeal dismissed their attempt to reinstate previously sacked council officials. The court affirmed that council chiefs elected under the APC platform remained permanently removed from office.

Governor Adeleke subsequently conducted fresh elections and swore in new council officials in late February, demonstrating his commitment to the rule of law despite political pressure.

Responding to the rumors, Governor Adeleke issued a direct statement through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on July 5, 2025. The governor emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the PDP.

“I assure the good people of Osun that I remain part and parcel of the PDP family. I am not defecting to any party,” Governor Adeleke stated categorically.

The governor’s use of “family” terminology reflects his deep personal commitment to the party beyond mere political partnership.

Party leadership attributes the rumor campaign to APC’s growing anxiety over Governor Adeleke’s governance achievements. In less than three years in office, the administration has recorded significant successes in infrastructural development, human capital development, and poverty alleviation programs.

Key accomplishments include the Cooperatives Revolving Loan Scheme, improved ease of doing business initiatives, prioritized workers’ welfare, and specialized care units for people with special needs.

These achievements have reportedly overshadowed what party sources describe as “12 wasteful years” of APC governance before Governor Adeleke assumed office in November 2022.

The PDP State Chairman emphasized that party members should ignore what he termed “agents of darkness” spreading false information. The party leadership has reassured members that Governor Adeleke “goes nowhere” from the PDP.

With the 2026 gubernatorial election approaching in August, the majority of Osun residents reportedly want Governor Adeleke to continue serving until 2030, according to party assessments.

The governor has committed to remaining focused on governance rather than engaging in what party officials describe as “dirty politics” that prioritizes political games over the general wellbeing and development of the state.

Party leadership expects these rumors to “die a natural death” as Governor Adeleke remains undeterred in his commitment to the PDP and his five-point agenda for Osun State development.

'Afrobeats has stalled' - Amaarae

Ghanaian-American singer Ama Serwah Genfi, popularly known as Amaarae, has claimed that the global momentum of Afrobeats has stalled.

The Sad Girls Love Money hitmaker made the claim in a recent interview with British-Nigerian media personality, Madame Joyce.

She explained that Afrobeats and African music in general, needs to evolve, adding that some artists have made so much money from a certain sound to the point where they are afraid of experimenting with new sounds.

Amaarae said, “Afrobeats and African music need to evolve. It needs to evolve in a direction that is fearless, and I think right now artists have made so much money from a certain type of sound that they are afraid to step out of the boundaries because they are probably more focused on the financial aspect of it. And as a result, I think Afrobeats has stalled.

“One of my favourite albums last year was Rema’s ‘HEIS.’ That’s what I consider the evolution of Afrobeats. You see how it moved the genre and the culture forward, and you see how it moved his career forward.

“There have been a lot of people that have big hits that aren’t willing to push the boundaries of the music, and as a result, Afrobeats is in a bit of a rut. So, I think Africans need to get it together, get on up, and start to experiment. [African] music needs to evolve, and it needs to excite people again.”
