A 35-year-old man, Nensi Momoh, was on Tuesday dragged before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of indecent assault of a minor (name withheld).
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Johnson Okunade, informed the court that Momoh committed the offence on Jan. 8 in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade said the defendant, a neighbour living on the same street as the girl’s parents, lured her into his room and indecently assaulted her.
”The defendant and the victim live in the same area, he saw her on the street and called her into his room where he indecently touched her body,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 149(1) and (2) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Sunday Balogun, prayed the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum, and then adjourned the case until Feb. 27 for hearing.
