The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formerly welcomed defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) and other parties into the Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Makinde, who pledged that the new PDP members would get equal benefits and accruals from the party, said there was a need for all members to work together to achieve victory for the party in the 2023 general elections.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, in a statement, the defection happened after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced the expulsion of Makindeโs Commissioner for Information, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, Senator Nonsura Sunmonu, Michael Koleoso, Niyi Adebisi, K.K. Obisesan, Kareem Toyin, Bunmi Olabode, Sola Oluokun, Oni Michael, Musibau Adejare, Pastor S.P. Akintokun, Bola Amusat and other appointees of the governor.
While receiving the new members, Makinde, assured them of equal rights and privileges in the party.
He also told them how they will be witnessing what he called โOmi Tuntun 2.0โ, which symbolises accelerated development and greater prosperity for Oyo state residents when he is re-election in 2023.
On his part, the state chairman of the PDP, Dayo Ogungbenro in his welcome remark appreciated the defectors for choosing the party that “believes in equity.
The various leaders of the defecting members, applauded Makinde for good governance for Oyo State even as they pledged allegiance to the PDP.
Ogungbenro also expressed confidence that the defectors would not be marginalised in the PDP family.
The statement noted that defectors were received from other parties including African Democratic Congress(ADC), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Alliance for Democracy(AD) among others.
