Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has expressed his determination to regain the starting position for the National team.

Maduka Okoye who was Super Eaglesโ€™ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, faced challenges after making a crucial error in the Round of 16 clash against Tunisia, resulting in him losing his place in the team.

After being sidelined for approximately two years, he has made a comeback and is focused on reclaiming the number one jersey.

Okoye acknowledges the competition from Stanley Nwabali, who performed exceptionally well in the AFCON and is patiently waiting for his opportunity while striving to impress the coaching staff during training.

When Football Temple asked Maduka Okoye if he is aiming to take the first spot, the Udinese goalkeeper said, โ€œYeah of course this is what I want, but Stanley (Nwabali) set a high point with a great AFCON, so Iโ€™m just patiently waiting, and trying to do my best in training and impress the staff as much as possible.โ€

Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has named the three toughest defenders he has encountered in his career.

All three defenders, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, and Kim Min-Jae, are based in the Bundesliga, where Boniface plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite his impressive record of 27 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances, with notable performances against top sides such as AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and RB Leipzig, Boniface singled out the Bayern Munich duo of Upamecano and Min-Jae, along with his Leverkusen teammate Tah, as the most challenging defenders he has faced.
