Nigeria’s 3rd force political movement, the Labour Party (LP) has identified two people whose names were erroneously included in its 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.
OsunDaily News reported earlier that there were controversies surrounding the recently released presidential campaign list for the Obi-Datti 2023 candidacy.
This is as the leadership of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), an umbrella body for LP consisting of key political groups supporting the candidacy of former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and his running mate, Sen. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, threatened to dump the party if the campaign list is not reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
The group had submitted that the party’s PCC list released on Wednesday in Abuja only took care of Obiโs associates and ignored other stakeholders supporting the party.
Reacting, however, to the controversies, the party has assured that a supplementary list for its Campaign Council would be released even as it affirmed that Ayuba Wabba and Festus Osifo were erroneously included.
The details were made available to newsmen in Abuja by the partyโs National Chairman, Julius Abure.
The statement read at the end of the Expanded National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the Labour Party in Abuja noted that LP’s expanded NWC meeting met to review its political activities in recent times and made some resolutions.
Abure noted that the Presidents of NLC and TUC were removed from the campaign council because they were erroneously included.
He said: โIt is in the strength of the above that the Presidential Campaign Council has been dully announced with representation across all states, tribes and faith.
โLabour Party hereby announces the endorsement of the Campaign Council; however, we acknowledge some omissions and misplacement of some names in the Council.
โThis will be corrected and a supplementary list released before the inauguration of the Council.
โAlso corrected is the erroneous inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress members in the Campaign list.โ
The expanded NWC reaffirmed that the partyโs National Chairman, Julius Abure, was a diligent administrator whose expertise was felt by every member of the party.ย The NWC, therefore, urged him to continue with the good work of leading the party to victory come 2023.
Labour Party Ready To Establish A New Nigeria
Speaking further in the communique, Abure assured that the third force movement is ready to take over the leadership of the country and establish a new Nigeria.
He said LP is fully ready to put all parameters in place to prosecute the election in 2023.ย โAs of moment, we are consolidating the momentum that will help us establish a new Nigeria come May 29, 2023.”
โWe also further make it clear that Labour Party enjoys a robust relationship with the new Campaign Council,”ย Abure boasts.
He also reiterated the partyโs commitment to gender, youth and social inclusion in all facets of its operations. The party chieftainย added that the NWC in session condemned, in strong terms, the incessant attack on Labour Party members and supporters during peaceful solidarity marches.
Recalling the attack on the party’s supporters in Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Enugu, Ebonyi and Katsina, Abure said it was unfortunate that the thugs of other political parties involved in the acts were not arrested.
This is as he also condemned the nefarious elements of the Ebubeagu vigilante in Imo State and Ebonyi which allegedly attacked LP members.
He said that NWC in session, therefore, called on the Federal Government and law enforcement agencies to, as a matter of duty, fish out the hoodlums and get them prosecuted. Abure thanked the Independent National Commission (INEC) for modalities put in place so far to ensure free and fair elections in the country.
He, however, urged INEC to facilitate the timely printing and distribution of PVCs to enable Nigerians to vote for the candidates of their choice.
The party also called on citizens to collect their PVCs and come out to vote during elections.ย Abure thanked all the partyโs support groups and encouraged them to continue with good intention for Labour Party and Peter Obiโs candidacy.
