Liverpool are set to appeal against the red card shown to Alexis MacAllister during Saturdayโs 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
While Liverpool were leading 2-1 just before the hour mark, Liverpoolโs new signing, MacAllister, tackled Ryan Christie and received a straight red card from referee Thomas Brammall.
The World Cup winner will miss Liverpoolโs forthcoming three matches against Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Wolves unless the clubโs appeal is successful.
Immediately after the game, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher argued that Mac Allister does not deserve to be red-carded in the game.
While he admitted that Allisterโs boot touched the ankle of Christie, he stressed that it was not a high tackle which he said could be the reason the referee awarded the red card.
โTheyโve both got their feet off the ground, not a red card for me. Liverpool would have to convince the panel itโs a clear error by the referee to win any appealโ, the referee told Sky Sports.
Also, in the post-game interview, Liverpoolโs coach Jurgen Klopp argued that โeverything was lacking for a red cardโ for Alexis MacAllisterโs tackle on Christie.
The German tactician argued further that he has witnessed โharsher challengesโ that were not punished through a red card, adding that if the referee had given a yellow card, the VAR wouldnโt have โupgraded to a red cardโ.
โEverything is lacking for a red card, the intensity. Yes, there was contact but there must be a different intention when itโs a red card. We will talk to the people about itโ, Klopp concluded.
