The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the State Waterway Authority (LASWA) have intensified the search for the body of a man who jumped from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge into the lagoon
OsunDailyNG understands that a yet to identified man on Tuesday jumped into the lagoon as passers-byers gave account.
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Public Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: โThe incident happened truly. Marine police and the Lagos State emergency officials are at the scene of the incident. Efforts are still on to bring out his body, dead or alive.โ
Also, the Head of Public Education of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Amodu Shakiru, confirmed the incident.
Shakiru said: โWe got a distress call at a2:43 pm:43pm, and we moved down to the location. There is no update yet.โ
However, according to The Guardian, an eyewitness, Temitope, tweeted: โDepression is real, that someone just jumped into the Ikoyi Link Bridge water (lagoon), right in front of me, not quite long. Hope he will not be lifeless before the rescue team arrives.โ
Hundeyin also told the platform that โWe are still searching but we are yet to sight anybody. There is no video of him jumping, and we canโt confirm if he is a dispatched rider.โ
Also reacting to the development, the General Manager, LASWA, Damilola Emmanuel, said: โWe have been searching but a body cannot float until after 24 hours. We deployed our men and did our best but we canโt see anything but we will go back there tomorrow morning (today).
โWe moved to the scene immediately after we got the call, but we couldnโt find anyone as an eyewitness when we got to the scene.
โMy advice to Lagosians is that being depressed should not make you end your life. People should learn to talk to somebody. Lagos State has helplines 767 and 112 where people can relate to people and share their issues.
โPeople should also watch out for others; the Lagos State government canโt deploy men to all the bridges.โ
