The Lagos State government has warned residents to be cautious in the purchase of โplantain chipsโ amid the spread of unwholesome practices concerning its processing.
Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency LASCOPA disclosed this in a recent statement in reaction to a viral online picture posted by an eyewitness showing a โpoisonous plantain chipsโ seller allegedly adding Polythene known as โRubberโ into the hot vegetable oil used for frying the plantain.
The agency said it is investigating the matter and vowed to punish those responsible for the dangerous practice.
โThe Agency is investigating this discovery and will take appropriate actions to protect consumers and hold those responsible for the dangerous practice accountable.
โMeanwhile, members of the public are urged to assist in calling the attention of appropriate government agencies, including LASCOPA, to all unfriendly and unlawful practices among sellers of consumable items that can put consumersโ health at risk.
