Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, has cried out over critical challenges confronting the institution.

In his address at the combined 10th and 11th convocation ceremony held at the institutionโ€™s main campus, Malete, Moro Local Government Area on Saturday, the VC said, โ€œaccess road to the university is not smooth given the state of the road from Shao to Malete community.โ€

โ€œThere are bad portions on the road and a few culverts on the verge of collapse. This road provides access to a growing number of vehicular traffic, not just to the university, but the numerous agrarian communities within this corridor,โ€ he added.

The VC, who called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to intervene, explained that as the institution expands, the existing intra-campus road network is now becoming inadequate and restricting efficient use of the infrastructure being put in place.

Prof. Luqman also mentioned the threatening issue of encroachment on the universityโ€™s land mass by communities and individuals.

In the bid to find a lasting solution to the looming issue of encroachment, the VC suggested to the governor โ€œto constitute a land review committee for the singular task of reviewing the status of the land mass ceded to the university at the inception and enforce appropriate government policy and sanctions to prevent all forms of encroachment.โ€

In his message to the 16,315 graduating students of the combined convocation ceremony, he charged them to advance their environment through responsible actions which will not damage the ecosystem.

โ€œYou have equally been grounded on the need to be self-sustaining. As you set forth into the world, equipped with outstanding education in not just your disciplines, but in these life skills, we are incredibly hopeful that you will bring glory back to your alma mater.

โ€œWe look up to you all to go into the world and propagate these values for which your university is known.โ€

The VC described the institutionโ€™s staff as one of its strengths and commended Governor Abdulrazaq for facilitating the environment which encourages dialogue and joint consideration of issues towards resolving them.

In his address, the Chancellor of the institution, Engr. Dr Johnson Adewumi noted that the university had remained steadfast in paying unwavering attention to infrastructural development, information technology and academic excellence.
