The Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kogi State has demanded the immediate relocation of Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) sensitive materials to Abuja.

The Director of New Media,
Muri/Sam Campaign Council, Isaiah Davies Ijele, in a statement on Monday alleged that there are plans by some loyalists of another party to flood the rooms where election sensitive materials are kept in Lokoja, Kogi State, to destroy the election materials.

He alleged that a close relative of the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Mr. Kobo Adamu, who is a purported staff of INEC has access to all details regarding the movement and storage facilities of the election sensitive materials.

โ€œAs an independent institution, it is not acceptable to have individuals who have close ties to key stakeholders, around election materials. Therefore we demand that, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu to order for the immediate movement of all materials to the Abuja head office for safekeeping.

โ€œAdditionally, the transfer of anyone with a close association to the materials should be mandated to safeguard democracy in Kogi State.

โ€œThe safety of these election-sensitive materials cannot be compromised, especially considering the significant amount of government and taxpayersโ€™ money used for their procurement,โ€ he added.

Ijele admonished INEC and the Federal Government to act swiftly and decisively to prevent any attempts to undermine the integrity of the institution in Kogi State.

Reacting to this allegation, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Muhammed Yabagi said the opposition party is known for spreading false information.

He said, โ€œThis is no doubt the last cry of a dying horse. They are doubling down on their propaganda having been totally rejected by the people of the state who went for a campaign mantra that captures the entire state rather than an ethnic agenda as canvassed by the SDP and its candidate, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka.โ€
