Minister of Works Dave Umahi has said bad roads across the country are aiding the operations of kidnappers.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, stated this while defending the budget of his ministry before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations.

DAILY POST recalls that President Bola Tinubu sent the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget to the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The minister, while trying to convince the lawmakers to allocate more money to the works ministry, said the bad roads have contributed to the insecurity in the country.

โ€œRoads have a lot to do with our revolution, security, and resetting the country. Road has the ability to reset securityโ€”the kidnappings that are happening all over the country, most of them happen where the roads have failed. Let me also say that without roads, it is difficult to enhance our agricultural revolution. This is very important. The people of this country need roads to be done for them.

โ€œRight now, the economy of our states is in jeopardy because most of our interstate movement is very difficult. I travelled from Abuja to Benin and spent 14 hours on the road, not due to the inability of the Ministry of Works but due to inappropriate funding. Some roads have lasted for 17 years, some 20 years,โ€ he said.

The lawmakers subsequently allowed Umahi to take a bow and leave after his presentation.
