The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress(APC) Presidential Campaign Council,ย Festus Keyamoย (SAN), has refuted the allegation that the party is planning to truncate the 2023 elections.

OsunDaily News reports that the opposition political parties in Nigeria under the aegis of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have raised an alarm over an alleged plot to truncate the 2023 elections process.

Addressing a joint news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the spokesman for CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere, alleged plot by some APC governors to cause a leadership change in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The CUPP also alleged plot to stop electronic transmission of the 2023 election results and deactivate the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) from INEC server during the 2023 general elections.

The opposition parties claimed that there is immense pressure on the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, and some National Commissioners to deactivate the BVAS from the server.

Fielding questions from journalists in Abuja after a tripartite meeting of the ruling party, Keyamoย described the allegation as unfounded and absolute nonsense.

He said CUPPโ€™s claims of mounting pressure on INEC to deactivate the BVAS or cause the chairman of the commission to resign should be disregarded.

He said: โ€œThere has been absolutely no occasion, where the APC, either through NWC or any of levels of leadership put any kind of pressure on INEC.

โ€œThose sensing defeat are already looking for reasons for that defeat. It is one of the reasons, it is one of the excuses they are trying to generate to accommodate their defeat, but they should know that the defeat is imminent.โ€
