Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has stated that no teacher should lose his or her life while imparting knowledge.
He stated this on Friday while reacting to the gruesome killing of a secondary school teacher in Jalingo, the state capital, by some students.
Describing the incident as highly regrettable, he urged parents and stakeholders to intensify their supervisory roles over their wards at home and in school.
The governor, who expressed his sadness at the incident through a press statement made available to newsmen in the state by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, said the incident is indicative of societal decay.
He stressed, “It is a wake-up call for parents and all stakeholders to intensify their supervisory roles over their wards at home and in schools.”
He identified the use of drugs by some youths as a major reason for the vices in society, urging security operatives to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He believed they could achieve this through a thorough investigation into the causes of the incident.
Kefas, who views the free education policy as securing the future of the youth, stated that part of this policy is ensuring the welfare and well-being of both teachers and students.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to purging the educational system of its challenges, he emphasized the need to secure schools and make them safe for learning.
DAILY POST reports that a secondary school teacher identified as Bassey Sarduana Nkuphee, was allegedly stabbed to death on Thursday by one of his former students, confirmed by the police to have conspired with some friends from the school.
