The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may, ahead of the 2023 general elections, lose some supporters as pensioners under the aegis of a Pensioners Pressure group threatened to support the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over unpaid gratuities by the incumbent administration.
OsunDaily News understands that the pensioners insisted on dumping the ruling party if the government fails to meet all their demands before the coming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved retired civil servants in Birnin Kebbi after rising from a congress meeting, the state group leader, Alhaji Babangida Garba Gwandu said that all stakeholders have unanimously agreed to leave the party should the government fail to address their pressing demands.
The pensioners’ appealed to Governor Atiku Bagudu’s led government to consider meeting their demands which include full payments of all the backload of gratuities, and pension review for both old and new pensioners as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
โWe are left with no option than to support the opposition party (PDP) in Kebbi state, but even they must promise to settle or meet our demands when they come to power,”ย saidย Dan Buran Gwandu.
He added that they will mobilise their members against the sitting government, saying their pressure group is none political as they are children of necessity who donโt engage in partisan politics, but the welfare of their members is paramount to them, therefore, non negotiable.
The citizen, however, admonished members of the group to remain law abiding as the group heads deploy peaceful and diplomatic means to get the government to meet their demands without further delay.
Dan Buran Gwandu also appealed to his teaming members to arm themselves with permanent voters cards (PVC) and await further action which shall be communicated to all members in due course he said.
