Motorists in Kano State have shunned Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mega Station in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

OsunDailyNG had reported that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has increased from N537/litre to N617/litre at several Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations on Tuesday.

Independent oil marketers have verified this rise in fuel cost, emphasizing that any price alteration at NNPCL stations typically signals a broader increase in PMS prices.

As the major petrol importer in Nigeria, NNPCLโ€™s pricing decisions extensively influence the market.

Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria Abuja-Suleja, Mohammed Shuaibu, in a chat with Punch, stated, โ€œThis is because NNPCL is still the major importer of petrol into Nigeria currently, though other marketers are gradually importing the commodity. The price this (Tuesday) morning at some NNPCL stations is N617/litre.โ€

Following this development, motorists have shunned NNPCL filling stations due to the new price review.

According to Daily Trust some consumers had gone to the station with the thought of buying fuel at N540 per litre, but immediately after they were informed of the upward review, they left.

A tricycle operator, Nura Isiya, said, โ€œThis is ridiculous; where are we heading for in this country? Honestly, I canโ€™t buy at this price.โ€

Another motorist, Shamsuddeen Muhammad, left the station without refueling, saying he now preferred to buy from independent marketers who are yet to adjust their prices as of the time of filing this report.

โ€œHaba Mallam, what is this? I have called someone, and I can get it at a cheaper price, at least N540 to N550 per litre in other stations.

โ€œLet me rush there before they get wind of the situation and increase the price also. We are doomed in this country.โ€

It was gathered that over 30 trucks load of fuel were currently parked outside the premises of the State NNPC Depot.

Even at the mega station, two trucks, one for diesel and the other for petrol, are about to offload more to the station.

Nigeriaโ€™s capital, Abuja, the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has increased from N537/litre to N617/litre at several Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations on Tuesday.
