Kano govt declares public holiday in honour of Buhari

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday as a public holiday to honour the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

 

The announcement was made by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, through a circular signed on his behalf by the Director of Administration and General Services, Abdulkadir Shehu.

 

According to the circular, the public holiday is in line with the decision of the Northwest Governors Forum to pay tribute to Buhari, who passed away recently.

 

“Following the resolution of the Northwest Governors Forum to honour the departed soul of our former President, Muhammadu Buhari, I am directed to formally announce that the government has declared Tuesday, 15th July, 2025, as a public holiday in Kano State,” the statement said.

 

The government described the late president as a man of discipline, integrity, and selfless service to Nigeria.

“The decision comes in recognition of the exceptional life of service, patriotism, and sacrifice rendered by the late former president, who until his death remained an embodiment of discipline, integrity, incorruptibility, and selfless leadership.”

 

The circular added that Buhari’s death is a loss not only to the Northwest region and Nigeria but also to the world.

 

The government encouraged citizens to pray for the peaceful rest of Buhari’s soul.

Kano police arrest 12 students over deadly attack in school

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 12 students in connection with a deadly attack at Government Secondary School, Bichi, which led to the death of two students and left two others hospitalized.

This is contained in a post shared on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X.

The post stated that the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, when some senior students reportedly tricked four fellow students into a hostel and assaulted them.

“The students who were attacked have been identified as 19-year-old Hamza Idris from SS3B, 18-year-old Umar Yusuf from SS2C, Ibrahim Ibrahim from SS2B, and Aliyu M. Nasir, also from SS2C.

“Idris and Yusuf were later confirmed dead at Bichi General Hospital, while Ibrahim and Nasir are still receiving treatment.

“The principal of the school, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the case to the police on July 15.

“Police named the arrested suspects as Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all of SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D),” Makama wrote.

Makama further stated that the police assured that investigations are ongoing, and anyone found guilty will be charged according to the law.

The Elders’ Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State has declared its full support for Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, passing a vote of confidence in his leadership amidst ongoing speculations about his political defection.

In a communique issued in Osogbo following a strategic meeting of the caucus, the elders reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Adeleke, commending his style of governance, commitment to grassroots development, and inclusive leadership.

The caucus described Governor Adeleke as a transformational leader whose administration has brought renewed hope and progress to Osun State.

Kano: Two students killed after violent assault by schoolmates — Police

Two students have died and two others are currently receiving treatment after being assaulted by their schoolmates at Government Secondary School, Bichi, in Kano State.

According to a post on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, and confirmed by the Kano State Police Command, the tragic incident occurred late on Sunday night.

The school principal, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the incident to the police on Monday, July 15. He said that at about 11:30 p.m. on July 14, a group of senior students allegedly lured four fellow students, Hamza Idris (19, SS3B), Umar Yusuf (18, SS2C), Ibrahim Ibrahim (SS2B), and Aliyu M. Nasir (SS2C), into one of the hostels, where they were brutally attacked over accusations of involvement in what was described as “unnatural offences.”

The victims were immediately taken to Bichi General Hospital. However, Idris and Yusuf were pronounced dead, while Ibrahim and Nasir are currently hospitalized and said to be responding to treatment.

Police said twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. They include: Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all of SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and
Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).

The Kano State Police Command stated that an investigation is ongoing and that those found culpable will face prosecution according to the law.
