Liverpool’s former captain, Jordan Henderson has completed his move from the Premier League club to the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq earlier today, July 27.
Jordan Henderson, 33-year-old, joined the Saudi Pro League club for a transfer fee worth £12 million plus add-ons.
Henderson announced his exit from Liverpool in a farewell video on Wednesday, July 26, after a 12-year tenure at Anfield in which he won the Premier League and the Champions League.
Henderson had been at Liverpool since June 2011, when he joined the Merseyside team for £20 million from Sunderland.
He made 492 appearances for the Reds, scoring 33 goals and registering 57 assists while winning seven major titles.
A statement from Liverpool reads, “Everyone at the club wishes to place on record their thanks and gratitude for everything Jordan did for us.”
While Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp said, “You are a legend. I know people say recently we use that word slightly too often. I can tell you, that it’s not in your case.”
Henderson will reunite with ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who is the current manager of Al-Ettifaq.
The English midfielder and Gerrard were teammates at Anfield until the former Aston Villa coach left Anfield in 2015.
Henderson was appointed captain of Liverpool in 2015, and he guided the team to the Champions League title in 2019, as well as the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup later that year.
He was also captain of the Reds when they won the Premier League for the first time in 30 years in 2019-2020 season.
