The Jigawa State Police Command arrested about 298 suspects for various criminal activities in the third quarter of 2023.

A statement issued on Wednesday by DSP Lawan Shiisu, spokesman of the Command, explained that the Police recovered firearms and 64 rustled animals during the period.

The Command equally rescued six kidnap victims in special operations conducted within the period under review.

โ€œThe suspects were apprehended for alleged robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, animal rustling, and fraud, among others,โ€ the Police spokesman said.

He further explained that the suspects comprise 25 robbers, 12 kidnappers, 36 murderers, 25 rapists, 37 thieves, 15 vandals, 17 animal rustlers and five fraudsters, while 126 others were arrested for allegedly belonging to a gang of brigands.

Arms recovered by the Police include one AK-47 rifle, one Beretta pistol, three locally-made guns, 48 live ammunition, 20 motor vehicles/motorcycles, and 64 rustled animals.

The spokesman stated that other items recovered include 560 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and a number of narcotic substances.

He observed that the crime prevention strategies adopted by the Command in its ongoing fight against all forms of crime in the state during the period under review yielded dividends, and urged residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
