The JIgawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday protested against the current economic hardship in the country.

The NLC members lee by Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigari converged at the Central El-id ground amidst tight security and marched for about two kilometers across the state capital.

Addressing the crowd, Maigari expressed dismay over the delay by the state government in approving wage award for workers in the state.

โ€œJIgawa NLC is still against the decision taken at the Executive Council meeting to give N10,000 for three months to workers as a wage award,โ€ he said.

He also called on the state government to ensure the full implementation of all agreements reached during negotiations.

โ€œWe wish to join the entire workers and masses of Nigeria to show displeasure with the state of affairs of our dear country Nigeria and draw the attention of the government to honor all agreements with the organized labor earlier reached.

โ€œThe government should fix our refineries, stop the Naira devaluation, end hunger and poverty, reject IMF/World Bank policies, support local industries, end insecurity, and create jobs and economic prosperity,โ€ he said.

He urged the Federal Government to consider opening borders to allow food importation into the country.
