The International Organisation for Migration, IOM, says no fewer than 1,000 Nigerians have been deceived with unexciting job opportunities in the United Kingdom, UK.
Laurent De Boeck, IOMโs Chief of Mission made the disclosure at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.
According to him, some of the victims lost huge amounts of money as much as $10,000 each while attempting to get their foreign job in the UK.
He said the victims were issued fake employment letters which allowed them to get the Visa for UK but the organizations failed to recognize the letters.
โThere are some of them who lost over $10,000 only to be given fake employment letters, which allowed them to get visas.
โThey get there, present the letters, and the organisations tell them that the letters did not emanate from the organisations. Over a thousand people are affected,โ he stated.
Boeck revealed that victims are currently stranded in the UK over lack of means to return to the country.
