Jidechukwu, the first son of the late former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has disclosed that his father developed heart complications after visiting Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, at the Department of State Services, DSS, facility in Abuja.

He disclosed that his father was made to walk for 20 minutes during his visit to Kanu at the DSS facility.

In a statement yesterday, Jidechukwu said the former Ohanaeze President-General developed a heart illness after the visit and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Iwuanyanwu died on July 25, 2024, at the age of 82.

However, Jidechukwu urged President Bola Tinubu to release Kanu, which was his fatherโ€™s last wish.

Jidechukwu said that while in the hospital, his father continued to advocate for Kanuโ€™s release and the realization of the South East Development Commission.

The statement said: โ€œUndeterred, my father sojourned on to see Kanu and had a father-son moment with him.

โ€œOn returning home, my father complained of his heart and retired to his room to rest.

โ€œThe next morning, he broke down and was rushed to the hospital.

โ€œHe was at the hospital until his death. While at the hospital, he was still fighting for Kanuโ€™s release and the realization of the South East Development Commission for the betterment of Ala Igbo.

โ€œIโ€™m sure if he were alive, he would have been happy to see one of his wishes come true.

โ€œMy father was a man of peace and a man who loved his people, Ndigbo, and Nigeria at large.

โ€œNnamdi Kanuโ€™s release will bring further peace and also end the Monday sit-at-home in the South East zone.

โ€œAs Mazi Nnamdi appears in court today, I use this opportunity to urge the Federal Government to not let my fatherโ€™s death be in vain, but to grant his wish of releasing Mazi Kanu, which will also bring peace to our nation and Ndi Igbo.โ€
