A female monarch, Her Highness, Etieka Henrietta Efa Akpera has asserted that the Nigerian political system cannot make good progress until women are given ample opportunity to take part in politics.

Her comments come ahead of the 2024 International Womenโ€™s Day, IWD, celebration.

Akpera who is the village head of Aka Efa in the Calabar Municipality in Cross River State, insisted that women should be allowed to take part in policy-making and political leadership of states and country.

She also argued strongly against the notion that women are usually more corrupt in government than men.

โ€œIt is not true that women are more corrupt than men. On the contrary, research has proven that women are more honest and great-minded than men when it comes to public leadership

โ€œWomen are easily accused of corruption because they are not close to power. Theirs is not up to the irregularity done by the male counterpart.

โ€œI think it is all about gender discrimination to label women as corruptโ€, she said.

The monarch claims that the allegations against women are to ensure that the few in political positions are not heard, adding โ€œthey want to put women under.โ€

According to her, women have not done one-third of the odds men do.

She used the opportunity to caution girl children against indulging in social media immorality, advising that they concentrate on their education or learn a trade to make themselves useful.

She advised that girl children must grow with the mentality of becoming breadwinners, not just allowing their husbands to fend for the families.
