On Monday, Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu revealed that in the pursuit of his political career, he was hurt and humiliated by those opposing his ambition.
While declaring his intention to run for the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state, Shaibu claimed he fought good fights to liberate the people from bad leadership.
He said, “I have fought the good fight for you my people, along the way, suffered humiliations and enjoyed many moments of victory but I am thankful in all things.
“I have been pressed but not crushed, persecuted but not abandoned, badly hurt but not destroyed. I resonate with the tireless and irrepressible spirit of the Edo people”.
Shaibu’s assertion may not be unconnected with the faceoff between him and his principal, the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Deputy Governor’s bid to succeed his boss who would be completing his second tenure in 2024, had stimulated a political impasse in the state.
