Hundreds of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina on Sunday officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The move was led by Mustapha Inuwa, who heads the coalition in the state.

Membership cards were distributed to the defectors, who included men and women from all 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

Their defection was announced during the official launch of the party’s Katsina State chapter of the party state.

Speaking at the event held at the Continental Event Center in Katsina, the state representative of the National Political Coalition Group, Lawal Batagarawa, lamented the alarming increase in insecurity, poverty, inflation, and the declining value of the Naira.

Batagarawa noted that multiple industries have collapsed since Bola Tinubu’s administration began in 2023.

He emphasized the importance of unity among citizens, party members and supporters, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory to tackle terrorism, banditry, poverty and illiteracy across the country.

For his part, Usman Musa Wamba, Chairman of the Katsina State chapter of the ADC, expressed optimism that the party would perform strongly in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

He also solicited more support from the electorate, especially the youth, for them to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Aliyu Saulawa, one of the defectors and a former APC card-carrying member who also served as Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation and National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement in Nigeria, stated that the APC had completely failed to deliver on its campaign promises, particularly to the people of the North.

He maintained that the party has not fulfilled even one percent of the promises it made during its recent election campaigns.

“Without security, there is nothing like livelihood, and if you look at the Northwest, we are peasant farmers and merchants, and definitely if we lack security, we virtually lack everything, including the educational system that is collapsed, honestly, I cannot continue to remain in APC,” he added.

Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement has announced that its members would stage a ‘One Million Man March’ in major towns of Abia State for Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

The group in a state issued in Umuahia on Sunday, said the march will hold simultaneously in four major Abia towns – Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia and Uzuakoli – on July 19.

According to a statement by one of the Coordinators of the Obident Movement in the state, Chibuzor Obiesili and Head, Media & Publicity Sub-committee, Mr Christian Emmanuel, the procession would be held to mark Obi’s birthday, which comes up on July 19.

While backing Obi for adopting the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to pursue his presidential ambition in 2027, the Obidient Movement described the ADC as an “Organic Coalition Movement”.

“Obi believes that to dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges and not walls even when those bridges are difficult,” the group said.

The Obidient Movement said apart from the One Million Man march for the former Anambra governor, its members would also visit inmates in prisons, hospital patients and other vulnerable persons across Abia State.
