The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has debunked the trending September 6 date which has been widely reported as the day picked to deliver ruling on the petitions challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu at the polls.

This is as Nigerians eagerly await the tribunal ruling in the suits filed by the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as their presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar respectively against the victory of President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25 election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reports that emerged on Monday suggested that the tribunal had picked Wednesday, September 6 as the date to deliver a ruling in the petitions against Tinubuโ€™s victory.

It would be recalled that after adopting the final written addresses of the parties involved in the suit, the five-man tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani reserved judgment and said a date to deliver the verdict would be communicated to concerned parties and their lawyers.

However, when contacted, the Secretary of the PEPT panel, Barrister Josephine J. Ekperobe said no specific date has been picked to deliver the ruling.

โ€œNo date yet please,โ€ Ekperobe told The Whistler.

OsunDailyNG however reports that the Tribunal must deliver judgment on the petition on or before September 17, as the constitution gives a provision of a maximum of 180 days for the panel to conclude its job.
