The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has reacted to the unfortunate death of Nigerian Airforce officers in a tragic aircraft crash in Niger State.

OsunDailyNG reported earlier that the Nigerian Air Forceโ€™s MI-171 helicopter crashed in Niger State, killing no fewer than thirty personnel.

It was gathered that the aircraft had taken off from Kaduna en route to Minna, the Niger state capital, on Monday, August 14, 2023, when the tragic incident occurred in Chukuba, a village in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

Reacting, Peter Obi, in a post via his verified Twitter page on Thursday, described the security situation in the country as embarrassing.

The former Governor of Anambra State called for a comprehensive investigation to unravel the cause of the crash which has been lamented by many Nigerians.

Obi noted that the deplorable level of insecurity across the country has continued to embarrass and cost precious lives and properties, with the attendant economic costs.

Obi expressed his sympathy for the families of the slain soldiers and called for a full-scale investigation to unravel the cause of the crash as a way of preventing future occurrences.

He wrote: โ€œI am deeply saddened by the unfortunate crash of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter on a casualty evacuation mission, near Chukuba Village in Niger State,โ€ he said.

โ€œMy heart is with the families of the gallant soldiers who lost their lives in that incident. I also sincerely commiserate with the Nigerian Air Force over this painful incident and urge them and other security agencies not to be dispirited over the challenges but to see them as our path to achieving a safe and secure nation.

โ€œI would also like to encourage a full-scale investigation to be carried out to unravel the cause of the crash as a way of preventing future occurrences.

โ€œWe will never give up on our nation. It is our greatest heritage in whose service all our sacrifices become noble acts,โ€ Obi added.
