The Nigerian Army on Wednesday launched a military exercise dubbed โOperation Golden Dawn IIIโ to address security concerns in Abia State.
Governor Alex Otti launched the exercise at the 14 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters, Isuochi, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
Otti, represented by Mr Macdonald Uba, his Special Assistant on Security, expressed confidence that the exercise would assist in flushing out criminal elements in the nooks and crannies of the state.
He further stated that it will provide additional encouragement to the military and other security services to further reduce crime and criminality throughout the state during the Yuletide season.
The governor advised officers and men taking part in the exercise to follow the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct.
According to him, โThis is to avoid any action that may infringe on the rights of the citizens and the host community.
โMay I assure the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of our continued support within available resources, to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.โ
In his welcome address, Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, explained that Operation Golden Dawn III is one of the exercises initiated by the Army in the South-East.
According to him, the exercise was designed to improve the security of law-abiding residents during the Yuletide season.
