Wuro-Chekke, a sprawling residential community in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has banned scavengers from operating anywhere within its territory.

The leadership of the community also banned entry by anybody from 11 pm unless prior permission is sought and given.

A meeting of stakeholders on Monday mandated community vigilante operatives and leaders of the community to enforce the order with immediate effect.

Alhaji Saโ€™ad Mohammed, the village head of Wuro-Chekke, gave the order after the meeting, which discussed the recent abduction of an architect and a journalist residing in the community.

The journalist, Usman Sahabi, a reporter with the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, was abducted two weeks ago from his home in Wuro-Chekke and spent six days in captivity before he was released.

The Wuro-Chekke village head said it was an obligation of all community members to be security conscious and ensure the safety of the community by supporting vigilantes, police and other security agencies with vital information that will assist in driving away criminals from the community.

He warned informants of criminals to refrain from their acts or relocate from the community.

In their separate remarks, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Yola South, Mohammed Sani, and the Divisional Crime Officer of Wuro-Chekke, Gabriel Markus, solicited the support of members of the public to enable them to check the activities of criminals.
