The Paramount Ruler of Calabar South in Cross River, (HRM) Etubom Nyong Offiong Okon Etim Ewa 1st, has revealed that the commonest causes of communal disputes are usually the indiscriminate and double sales of parcels of lands to multiple buyers by one or two persons.

The monarch particularly attributed most of the disputes in Efut community of Calabar to the act.

Speaking with journalists, he advised against it and admonished clan heads in the area to ensure peace for the overall development of Calabar South.

He urged all traditional heads to show sign of identity by erecting signposts in their respective domains as stipulated in the traditional rulers edict 1987 to avoid trespass.

He called on all traditional rulers to uphold the virtues of integrity as true custodians of tradition by initiating programmes that would promote peaceful coexistence.

Ewa admonished all clan and village heads in the area to sheath their swords and toe the path of peace than heat the polity with disputes over land matters.

The Paramount ruler, who also frowned at reports of overlapping influence and trespass on land in other domains, clarified that the traditional ruler edict is very explicit as it is only the village heads that have authority over their domains without external interference.
