Yobe State government, in collaboration with development partners, has organized a five-day workshop to itemize and domesticate the National Policy on the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

The workshop, attended by different development partners such as the World Bank, UNDP, UNHCR, IOM, UNOCHA, NEMA, NEDC, Civil Society Organizations, security agencies, as well as the representative of the IDPsโ€™ communities was declared open by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Governor Buni expressed delight that Yobe is the first state to take the strategic step to address the complex challenges of displacement in line with the UN Secretary Generalโ€™s Action Agenda on solutions to Internal Displacement in the country.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali said his administration had in the last five years, made concerted efforts that translated into a very successful reconstruction, rehabilitation, and establishment of new structures geared towards revamping education and improving healthcare service delivery.

โ€œThis administration appreciates the various efforts and commitments of donors and development partners, especially the Federal Government agencies, the World Bank, UN agencies, and other development and humanitarian partners in filling the gaps of developmental challenges and complementing the state governmentโ€™s efforts to meet the needs of the affected communities.

โ€œAs a government, we have continued to initiate various policies and programs geared towards short, medium, and long term stabilization and development of communities in post-conflict recovery programs.

โ€œThis administration has continued to sustain government support to the most affected communities to have access to basic lifesaving assistance, including food and non-food items, clean water, healthcare, education and sanitation,โ€ the Governor said.
