Daniel Bwala, a legal practitioner and former spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign during the 2023 presidential election, has expressed his wish for free and fair elections in Africa.
He lamented that if there were free and fair elections in Africa the military would not think of planning a coup to take over the government.
Bwala stated this while reacting to the coup in Gabon.
Recall that Army officers had appeared on national television to announce that they had seized power in Gabon after President Ali Bongo was re-elected to a third term in office in the Central African nation.
According to the BBC, the officers said they were annulling the results of Saturdayโs election which the opposition termed โfraudulentโ.
Twelve soldiers announced that they were dissolving โall the institutions of the republicโ.
Reacting to the development via Twitter, Bwala noted that the Gabon coup is the 7th most recent coup in Africa.
He insisted that the worst civilian rule is better than military rule.
According to him, โGabon again? Central Africa? This is the 7th most recent coup in Africa. I truly wish free and fair elections which is the symbol of democracy works in Africa so these guys donโt have to think of take over. โThe worst civilian rule is better than the best military ruleโ Africa, letโs get our acts right.โ
