Nigerian singer, Anthony Victor, popularly known as Victony, has revealed why he didnโt start his career as a singer despite being aware of his singing talent.
He said he wanted to be a rapper because he thought singing was an escape for โweak people.โ
The โSowetoโ crooner said he transitioned from rapping to singing in 2020.
Speaking in the latest episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Victony said, โ2020 was when I started doing Afrobeats. In fact, โSowetoโ was one of my first trials at Afrobeats.
โHonestly, I used to know I could sing but I just refused to. Because I just felt like it was for weak people. I felt like it was an escape for weak people.
โI always loved that rapper energy and I wanted to be a rapper. But when I started singing, I realised that it is just as technical as rapping.โ
