Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has revealed how her collaboration with her senior colleague, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, shot her to the international scene.
OsunDailyNG reports that the 29-year-old producer, in an interview with Big Boy TV, said three international singers, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Drake, reached out to her within 3 days after she did ‘Essence’ with Wizkid.
Tems stated that Beyoncé’s team first reached out, followed by direct messages from Drake and Rihanna.
She said, “I never imagine becoming this big. We did ‘Essence’ and I started getting messages. In 2020 Beyoncé team reached out and I was like God, what’s going on?
“And I got DMs from people that I looked up to like Rihanna and Drake. These are people that influenced culture very much for past 10 years or more. They are very respected in the industry. In fact I got their messages within 3 days of each other.
“It felt like it wasn’t real and I felt like I was dreaming or being pranked.”
Meanwhile, Tems has revealed why she cannot drive in Nigeria without having police escorts.
OsunDailyNG reports that the ‘Free Mind’ crooner, in a podcast interview with Big Boy TV in the United States, said her celebrity status sometimes complicates her movements in Nigeria.
Giving reason for her inability to drive in Nigeria, Tems recalled how she almost got mobbed while driving in Lagos last December.
