The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has dismissed allegations of media attacks on the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia.
The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum had on Sunday accused Akume of undermining Alia, stressing that the party could not afford to lose Benue State.
The group urged Akume to desist from using proxies to attack Governor Alia, warning that such actions could hurt the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
Speaking via a statement signed by the forum’s chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the group condemned the continued media attacks on Governor Alia, orchestrated through proxies and faceless groups.
The forum expressed concern that these attacks were aimed at destabilising the APC in Benue State and across the North-Central region.
The forum warned that if Akume’s actions continued, it could lead to Governor Alia following the path of his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, who left the APC for the PDP.
Responding, the SGF’s spokesperson, Terrence Kuanum, dismissed the claims from the forum, accusing them of attempting to tarnish Akume’s image.
“There is no iota of truth in the claim that the SGF is behind media attacks on the Benue Governor, Hyacinth Alia,” Kuanum stated.
He added, “The group led by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, however, exposed its real motive when it threatened to mobilise against the SGF and demand his removal from office. Contrary to the claims by the APC North Central Forum, the SGF has continued to offer leadership and direction in Benue and the North-Central Chapter of the party.”
Kuanum reaffirmed that Akume remained focused on his mandate and continued to provide strong leadership for the APC, dismissing the group’s accusations as a distraction.
