The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, has mourned the victims of the Enugu tanker explosion.

OsunDailyNG reported that about 15 persons lost their lives as a petrol tanker plying Ugwu Onyeama fell and exploded on Saturday.

In a statement on Sunday, Professor Yilwatda, commended the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency for prompt intervention during the incident.

โ€œI am deeply saddened by the tragic fuel tanker accident and explosion that occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Ugwu Onyeama in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, leading to the loss of lives, destruction of homes, and devastation of businesses. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.

โ€œI commend the swift response of the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency and other organizations that promptly mobilized to rescue victims and manage the aftermath. Your dedication is invaluable in mitigating the impact of this unfortunate event,โ€ he said.

Meanwhile, Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, has called for urgent action to tackle increasing accidents at the Ugwu Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

In a brief statement on Saturday, the Commandโ€™s spokesman urged stakeholders to collaborate to address the re-occurring accident in the axis.

โ€œIt was a truly sad day. May the souls of the faithful departed find eternal rest in the bosom of Almighty God.

โ€œThere is certainly an urgent need to tackle these incessant fatal road accidents along the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Highway. All hands need to be on deck,โ€ he said.
