Popular Yoruba Nollywood actor, Jamiu Azeez, has revealed the reasons the film industry cannot produce standard movies.
OsunDailyNG reports that in the past many Nigerians have often frowned at the movies being churned out by movie producers, saying they are not standard.
However, in a post via Instagram, Jamiu lamented the high rate of piracy by some websites and social media channels.
According to him, it is deeply saddening to witness the rampant piracy recently launched on a new movie project and viewers accessing the unauthorised platforms.
The thespian further questioned how Nigerians expect them to produce good movies when they may likely not get their money back due to piracy.
He wrote: โYou all complained about Nollywood producing standard movies. How do you expect us to produce good movies when we may likely not make our money back. Please say no to pirated websites. Please say no to the telegram channels.
โAs a creator in the realm of filmmaking, it deeply saddens me to witness the rampant piracy of recently launched major projects. Even more disheartening is the fact that many individuals show enthusiasm for viewing content on unauthorized platforms, rather than through legitimate channels.
โThis scenario echoes the past when numerous producersโ aspirations were shattered during the era of DVD/VCD piracy.
โRegrettably, these pirates have resurfaced, and there appears to be a swift inclination toward supporting their operations. Itโs crucial to recognize the substantial financial investments, hard work, and dedication that go into crafting these cinematic pieces.
โWhile itโs convenient to point fingers at governmental shortcomings, we mustnโt overlook our roles as guardians of ethical consumption.
โLetโs both fight against online piracy and opt for the rightful avenues of watching movies.โ
