The lawmaker representing the Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Marcus Onobun, has been hospitalized due to multiple fractures following a car accident.
The accident occurred on the Ekpoma-Abuja Highway while he was travelling from his hometown of Ekpoma to Abuja, according to Peoples Gazette.
The crash severely damaged Onobunโs vehicle, a dark brown Toyota 4Runner SUV, with images revealing a broken windshield, a compressed roof, and airbags that had deployed.
The platform noted that the development had yet to be confirmed by the state police command and the Federal Road safety.
The accident reportedly took place on a part of the highway which had been neglected by federal authorities and had fallen into disrepair.
The lawmaker, who is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), previously served as the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly from 2010 before he was later elected to the federal House in the general elections of 2023.
As he continues to recover in an undisclosed medical facility, messages of support have reportedly been pouring in from his fellow parliament members.
