The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, KACRAN, have appealed to the governments of the 19 Northern States to procure and distribute livestock feed to Herders as palliative aid.
The National President of the herders, Khalil Mohd Bello made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday in Damaturu, Yobe AState.
He said the appeal became necessary following the disbursement of N50 billion by the federal government to the Pulaaku initiative, a campaign championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fortify the livestock sector and enhance the condition of Nigerian Pastoralists.
“As the primary beneficiaries of government initiatives aimed at advancing livestock development, KACRAN implores the Northern State Governments to participate actively by purchasing and distributing critical animal feed to Pastoralists within their jurisdictions”, Bello appealed.
The Association urged the Northern State Governors to acknowledge the profound connection between the prosperity of the livestock sector and the overall health of the nation by providing much-needed palliatives to enhance Pastoralists’ resilience.
“We are currently facing a critical juncture where the welfare of pastoral communities and their herds are at stake. Our appeal is grounded not only in the interest of the pastoralists but also in the broader context of national food security and economic stability”, Bello stressed.
