One kilogram of local rice surged by 98.47 per cent in January 2024 to N1,021.91 from N514.83 recorded in January last year amid rising economic hardship.

The National Bureau of Statistics recently disclosed in its โ€˜Selected Food Prices Watchโ€™ for January 2024.

The report added that the price of 1kg rice rose by 11.31 per cent monthly from N917.93 in December 2023.

The state profile analysis in January 2024 showed that the highest average price of 1kg of local rice was recorded in Abuja at N1,350, while the lowest was in Benue at N800.64.
