One person was reportedly killed on Monday after gunmen attacked the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) facility at Owerrinta, located along the Umuahia-Aba Federal Expressway.

OsunDailyNG learnt that a female detainee was fatally shot during the attack.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, said one suspect was arrested.

Isa stated, โ€œOn that day, there was an attack on our facility at Owerrinta shortly after midnight. The assailants arrived in about three Hilux vehicles and opened fire on our facility.

โ€œOur personnel repelled the attack. However, the assailants used dynamite to blow off our roof. In their attempt to release detainees, they opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of a female suspect.

โ€œFollowing the incident, we pursued the suspects using technical methods and successfully arrested one individual. The police are currently interrogating him to identify other accomplices. We are making progress.โ€

According to The PUNCH, unconfirmed reports suggest that a female detainee who was killed during the attack had been detained in connection with a child trafficking case.

Meanwhile, two individuals have been reported deceased in the Obi local government area on Sunday following a confrontation between an army officer and a police special constable affiliated with the Jenkwe Division, which occurred at Agyaragu Market.

OsunDailyNG gathered that the incident, which resulted in the fatalities, arose during an investigation into a reported motorcycle theft at approximately 12:30 PM on Sunday.

It was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, that after the theft was reported, a suspect was apprehended by a police officer in conjunction with a Police Special Constable from the Jenkwe Division at Agyaragu Market.

However, while transporting the suspect to the police station, a soldier, whose name has not been disclosed, reportedly on leave from his service in Borno State, intervened and assaulted the police officers in an attempt to thwart the arrest.

As a result, the soldier brandished a knife and inflicted injuries on the Police Special Constable.
